Speechify Review 2026: Free vs Premium, Pricing & Verdict
A Research-based look at Speechify, an app that reads text aloud. Worth knowing up front: the free plan uses voices Speechify itself calls robotic, and its voice-over Studio is a separate subscription.
Quick Verdict
// Research-basedTeknexia AI Tool Evaluation Framework
This is a Research-based review. We did not use Speechify ourselves. Every score below is judged on Speechify's official pricing, usage-limit, and refund pages, its press kit, aggregated Trustpilot reviews, and a 2026 third-party review from ComputerTech, not on hands-on use. Where a criterion such as ease of use would normally come from our own testing, it is assessed here from documentation, tutorials, and what user reports describe, and each description says what it rests on.
Overall: 7.2/ 10
Speechify turns written text into speech: documents, PDFs, web pages, emails, and books. It is the sixth review in our AI Audio category, after Suno, ElevenLabs, Murf AI, Udio, and Podcastle. Unlike ElevenLabs and Murf, whose main job is creating voice-overs, Speechify's core product is for listening to what you would otherwise read. This review is built from named sources only; we have not used Speechify.
Two products, two subscriptions. Speechify's FAQ states that its Text to Speech Reader and Speechify Studio are different products with separate subscriptions. The Reader is the app for listening to text; Studio is for creating voice-overs, dubbing, and AI audio for your own content. Premium for the Reader does not include Studio.
- Per the official pricing page, the free plan offers 10 voices that Speechify itself calls robotic sounding, speeds up to 1.5x, and text-to-speech features only.
- Premium costs $29 a month or $139 a year and adds 1,000+ voices, 60+ languages, speeds up to 5x, and Scan & Listen.
- Speechify Studio, for voice-overs and dubbing, is a separate subscription: free without commercial rights, $100 or $300 a year.
- Trustpilot shows 4.7/5 from 7,133 reviews, with renewal charges and refunds the main complaints.
The Reader: What Speechify Is For
The Reader app reads text aloud with word highlighting, across phones, computers, and browser extensions. Speechify's own materials emphasize accessibility for people with dyslexia, ADHD, or low vision, as well as studying and productivity. The two images below come from Speechify's official press kit.

Free vs Premium
We read Speechify's pricing page in a browser on 8 October 2026, in both monthly and yearly views.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 10 “robotic sounding” voices · speeds up to 1.5x · text-to-speech features only |
| Premium | $29/mo, or $139/yr | 1,000+ natural voices · 60+ languages · up to 5x · Scan & Listen · AI summaries and chat · cloud integrations · voice typing · AI podcasts |
Speechify Studio, the Voice-Over Side
Studio is where Speechify competes with ElevenLabs and Murf. Per its official pricing page, the Studio Free plan includes 600 credits, 1,000+ voices, voice-over and dubbing tools, and a voice changer, but no commercial usage rights. Studio Starter costs $100 a year for 86,400 credits with commercial rights, and Studio Creator costs $300 a year for 345,600 credits. The page does not say how credits convert to minutes of audio.
Renewals and Refunds
Because billing is a recurring user complaint, the official refund policy is worth reading before you subscribe. Per that page, annual Reader plans are refundable within 7 days if no more than 500 HD words were used, while monthly, quarterly, and discounted plans are not refundable, and App Store or Google Play purchases are handled by Apple or Google. To avoid an unwanted renewal, cancel from your account settings before the renewal date.
What Other Users Say
What Other Users Say
According to user reports, Speechify is easy to use, its support helps with subscription questions, and it matters a great deal to readers with accessibility needs. The negative minority centers on billing: unexpected charges, surprise annual renewals, and refunds that are hard to obtain. Trustpilot shows Speechify replied to 91% of negative reviews. A 2026 review from ComputerTech, which discloses affiliate links, praises the premium voices and accessibility value but calls the yearly price steep.
