Pipedream Review 2026: Why Its Zapier Rival Is Being Phased Out
A Research-based look at Pipedream. Worth knowing before anything else: Pipedream Workflows, the product comparable to Zapier and n8n, is in maintenance mode and shutting down on 31 March 2027. Pipedream itself is now owned by Workday.
Quick Verdict
// Research-basedTeknexia AI Tool Evaluation Framework
This is a Research-based review. We did not use Pipedream ourselves. Every score below is judged on Pipedream's own documentation, pricing page, and the Workday acquisition announcement, plus aggregated Trustpilot and Capterra reviews and one third-party comparison, not on hands-on use. This review also carries an unusual caveat: Pipedream's own pages contradict each other on a central fact (see below), which limits how confidently we can score some criteria.
Overall: 4.8/ 10
Pipedream is a workflow automation and API integration platform. It's the fifth review in our AI Automation cluster, after Zapier, n8n, Make, and Airtable. We set out to write a standard Research-based comparison against Zapier and n8n, and found something that changes the whole picture: the product that comparison would be about is being shut down. We haven't used Pipedream ourselves, and this review is built from official documentation, one verified press release, and aggregated reviews.
Read this before anything else: Pipedream's own documentation states that Workflows, its Zapier-style automation builder, is in maintenance mode, is no longer accepting new signups or subscriptions, and will shut down on 31 March 2027. At the same time, Pipedream's own pricing page, as we read it on 30 September 2026, still says "Get started for free — no credit card required" for "individuals getting started with workflow automation," with active signup buttons and no mention of the shutdown. We're reporting both pages exactly as they read rather than guessing which one is right; if you're evaluating Pipedream, check both pages yourself before you commit to anything.
- Pipedream's documentation says Workflows is in maintenance mode, closed to new signups, and shutting down on 31 March 2027. Its pricing page contradicts this and still invites new signups.
- Workday, Inc. signed a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream on 19 November 2025, confirmed by Workday's own newsroom. Pipedream now positions itself as "the integration layer for AI agents."
- Pipedream Connect, the product Pipedream is focused on now, is a developer tool for embedding managed API authentication and pre-built actions into your own app or agent, not a Zapier-style point-and-click automation builder.
- Trustpilot and Capterra samples for Pipedream are both very small (10 and 6 reviews), so treat any star rating as directional, not a reliable verdict.
Workflows Is Shutting Down: The Official Notice
Pipedream's documentation page, titled "Workflows and String Are Shutting Down on March 31, 2027," states this plainly: "We want to let you know that Pipedream Workflows and String will shut down on March 31, 2027." It explains the company has been building two products, Workflows and Connect, and has decided to focus on "being the integration layer companies rely on to connect AI to the outside world," which Workflows falls outside of.
Per that page, existing workflows keep running through 31 March 2027, but Pipedream is "no longer accepting signups or subscriptions" for Workflows and won't ship new features for it. All Workflows data, including connected-account credentials, will be permanently deleted by 30 April 2027, and an export tool lets existing users download their workflow structure as JSON. Active subscriptions stay in place until the shutdown date, when Pipedream says it will auto-cancel them and issue a prorated refund.
We checked whether this was simply an old or stale page. It wasn't: Pipedream's pricing page, read the same day, still promotes sign-ups "for individuals getting started with workflow automation" with no mention of this change. We can't resolve that contradiction from outside the company, so we're reporting both pages as they stand rather than picking a side.
The Workday Acquisition
This context explains the shutdown. On 19 November 2025, Workday, Inc. announced in an official press release that it had "entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream, a leading integration platform for AI agents with more than 3,000 pre-built connectors to the most widely used business applications." Workday's stated goal is to connect its HR and finance data to those 3,000-plus applications, letting AI agents "initiate workflows, pull data, and execute tasks" across Workday and third-party systems. Workday's SVP of Platform, Products and Technology, Gabe Monroy, said: "With Pipedream, AI agents will securely connect to major enterprise systems, enabling them to retrieve information and take action across the tools people already use."
That acquisition lines up with what Pipedream's own site now says about itself: its homepage headline reads "The integration layer for AI agents," built around "managed auth and 10,000+ tools across 3,000+ APIs" for AI agents rather than around a visual workflow builder for general automation.
What Pipedream Connect Is Now
With Workflows closed to new users, Connect is what Pipedream is actually selling. Per its own documentation, Connect is aimed at developers who want to add managed authentication and pre-built API actions to their own product, rather than at someone who wants to build an automation by clicking through a visual builder.

The diagram above, published in Pipedream's own Connect documentation, shows the shape of the product: your app or AI agent on one side, Pipedream Connect providing managed auth, 10,000-plus pre-built tools, multi-step workflows, and a proxy API in the middle, and thousands of third-party APIs (Google, Salesforce, Slack, Notion, HubSpot, OpenAI, GitHub, and more) on the other side. That is a backend building block for developers, not a consumer-facing automation app.
Pricing, As the Official Page Shows It
We read Pipedream's pricing page in a browser on 30 September 2026. It lists five tiers, blending Workflow-Builder-labeled usage limits with Connect features in a single comparison table, which is part of why we can't say with confidence what a new signup actually gets.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Included credits |

What Other Users Say
What Other Users Say
In a Research-based review this section usually carries extra weight, but here we have to flag its limits first: both platforms show very small samples for a company Workday's own press release describes serving thousands of customers, so neither rating is statistically reliable. With that caveat, Trustpilot's reviews skew negative, with complaints about an unresponsive sales team, unexpected billing after cancellation, and a high learning curve for non-developers; only one of the 10 reviews is from the past year. Capterra's six reviews are all five stars, praising ease of integration and cost versus Zapier. We could not retrieve a verified G2 figure, so we don't cite one.

Pipedream vs Zapier vs n8n
We're keeping this comparison because Pipedream is still a real, live product, but the context above matters: Zapier and n8n are both accepting new customers for automation building today, and Pipedream's directly comparable product is not. The Zapier and n8n columns use our own published, hands-on-tested reviews.

Pros
- Pipedream Connect offers managed authentication for 3,000-plus APIs and 10,000-plus pre-built tools, per its own documentation, useful for developers building their own product or agent
- Backed by Workday, Inc., a large enterprise software company, following a definitive acquisition agreement signed 19 November 2025
- A clear, dated shutdown notice and a data-export tool for existing Workflows users, rather than a silent sunset
- Capterra's small sample is entirely positive on ease of integration and cost
- A free tier exists (100 credits/month) with no credit card required, per the pricing page
Cons
- Workflows, the product comparable to Zapier or n8n, is in maintenance mode and closed to new signups, per Pipedream's own documentation
- The pricing page contradicts the documentation and still invites new "workflow automation" signups with no mention of the shutdown
- Connect is a developer tool, not a point-and-click automation builder, so it doesn't serve the same non-technical audience Zapier does
- Trustpilot and Capterra samples are both too small (10 and 6 reviews) to treat as reliable
- Existing Workflows users face a hard data-deletion date of 30 April 2027
FAQ
Is Pipedream shutting down?
Not the whole company. Per its own documentation, Pipedream Workflows (and a related product, String) are shutting down on 31 March 2027, while Pipedream Connect "remains fully supported and actively developed," in the company's own words.
Can I still sign up for Pipedream?
Its pricing page still shows active signup buttons as of 30 September 2026. Its documentation says Workflows specifically is no longer accepting new signups or subscriptions. We could not resolve this contradiction from outside the company, so confirm directly with Pipedream what you'd actually get before paying.
Who owns Pipedream?
Workday, Inc. signed a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream on 19 November 2025, confirmed in Workday's official press release.
Is this review based on hands-on testing?
No. It is Research-based, built from Pipedream's documentation, pricing page, the Workday press release, and aggregated Trustpilot and Capterra reviews. We have not used Pipedream.
Should I use Pipedream instead of Zapier or n8n?
For a Zapier-style automation today, no: Pipedream's comparable product is closed to new signups, per its own documentation, while Zapier and n8n are both still accepting new customers. Pipedream Connect is a different kind of product, aimed at developers embedding API access into their own app or AI agent.
